Hambrook Marshes, along with a number of other green spaces in the Canterbury district are gaining added protection under new legislation aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour. The marshes will be covered by the new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), which allows on-the-spot fines of £100 for offences including use of disposable barbecues, bringing in glass bottles, riding e-scooters, failure to control dogs, injuring wildlife and spraying graffiti. The order will remain in force for three years initially. As police officers and PCSOs are an unusual sight on Hambrook Marshes however, it remains to be seen whether the order can be enforced.
